THIS IS US
“It sounds like Kurt Cobain teamed up with Queens of the Stone Age.”
SUBZEN, the three-piece Australian-German grunge band from Berlin, taps into the sound of the 90s and 2000s with fuzzy guitars, growling bass, big drums, and hooks with pop-appeal.
Formed in 2020, the band has been hard at work on their debut release “Columbia”. Fans of the Smashing Pumpkins, Silverchair or the Foo Fighters will find the four-track EP to have a little bit for everyone blended into an exciting 21st century version.
“They have the power, especially in the pummeling guitar riffs and the high flying vocals. But, they know how to hold their greatest tricks ready for the moment that the roller coaster reaches its peak. This is forward-thinking grunge that looks towards the future”, as Alt77.com describes “Columbia”.
Their latest single “Bird” released on November 1st 2022:
We can feel small and helpless sometimes. Or maybe even pretty insignificant on our darker days. Not everyone needs or wants advice all the time. It can in fact be very toxic.
„Bird“ tells the story of someone pushing back. It’s an ironic inquiry into why you would ever tell a bird how to sing their song.
Teaming up with platinum-winning producer Carl Albrecht, SUBZEN delivers the big rock sounds of the early 2000s with a modern twist.
The German capital is experiencing a resurgence of rock music at the moment, with grunge leading the charge. There seems to be something about the city that resonates with the musical genre’s tendency to combine raging riffs with more tender melodies, chaos with simplicity.
Berlin can feel like a world full of disparate realities, which SUBZEN turns into song.
